John H. Holmen, M.D., M.S.E.E. is a musculoskeletal radiologist with Diagnostic Imaging Specialists. He has performed thousands of pain management injections and interpreted thousands of musculoskeletal MRI examinations. He completed radiology and musculoskeletal fellowship training at the University of Iowa, the largest University owned teaching hospital in the country, and annually voted as a top ten in orthopedics. Dr. Holmen scored in the 99th percentile on the Radiology Board examinations in both the Radiology Physics and Diagnostic Radiology portions of the examination. Dr. Holmen attended medical school at UND on a full tuition scholarship and graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha affiliation. Prior to medical school he completed a bachelor of science in electrical engineering, graduating summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA. He worked at the IBM corporation and gained valuable experience in signal and image processing. During the first two years of medical school, in addition to the normal medical school curriculum, he completed a master's degree in electrical engineering with research in signal and image processing. He has also spent time at the Mayo clinic performing research in 3D imaging and virtual colonoscopy. Dr. Holmen has published research papers in musculoskeletal radiology and has given lectures on pain management and musculoskeletal radiology. Dr. Holmen's professional affiliations include Radiological Society of North America, Society for Computer Applications in Radiology, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, and Eta Kappu Nu Electrical Engineering Honor Society.
